Mixed Materials Make This Portland Kitchen Pop

Recently, we worked with our Portland client to give a much needed update to their kitchen, but single-note spaces just didn’t fit their family’s aesthetic. They asked us to create something with pop and personality that also functioned in all the right ways, and we were very much up to the task.

We began by building a palette of warm wood tones, grays, and muted metallic colors. The two-toned cabinets help the space feel fresh and modern without giving off sterile and cold vibes. To help open up an otherwise dark kitchen corner, we incorporated a few glass-doored cabinets as well. Small touches like this can really elevate a space.

A Statement Island

To make their kitchen the true focal point of the home, we carefully selected a stunning marble countertop to upgrade their new island. The beautiful grain combined with the perfect balance of colors ties the entire space together in the best way. The island is just as functional as it is stunning with a prep sink at one end, plenty of storage in the base, and seating for three.

Beautiful Backsplashes

To add yet another layer of elegance to this mixed-media marvel, our team selected two gorgeous tile designs for backsplashes behind the sink and the stove. The simple gray quatrefoil and the elaborate mosaic play off of each other and the surrounding materials to intrigue and capture the eye.

Finishing Touches

To finish off the space, our clients opted for sleek stainless steel appliances, fixtures, and hardware for a modern yet subtle accent. Overhead and under-cabinet lighting support the natural light that comes in from the windows. Finally, painted window frames and ceiling details in a warm beige to frame the space in the best way.

Our clients absolutely love the way the different tones throughout this kitchen help elevate it into a true statement space. While mixing colors, patterns and materials often feels intimidating to many homeowners, the results are truly worth it!
